Self determination

Free choice of one's own acts or states without external compulsion.

Self-advocacy

A process of supporting and enabling people to express their views, to access
information and services, to find out about options and make decisions, and to secure their
rights. Refers to the civil rights movement for people with intellectual and other disabilities. It is
an important term in the disability rights movement, referring to people with disabilities taking
control of their own lives, including being in charge of their own care in the medical system.

Sheltered workshops

Refers to an organization or environment that employs people
with disabilities separately from others.

Social Enterprise

An organization that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements
in financial, social and environmental well-being—this may include maximizing social impact
alongside profits for external shareholders.

Supported Employment

A method of working with disabled people and other disadvantaged
groups to access and maintain paid employment in the open labour market.
